Situated at a distance of 23 km from Sandakan on the eastern coast of Sabah, the Orang-Utan Rehabilitation Center takes pride in its priceless wealth of rare and indigenous species of birds, animals, and plants.



Established in 1964, the Sepilok Orang-Utan Rehabilitation Center aims at returning the orphaned apes to the wild. Although the primary objective of the center has always been rehabilitation of Orang-Utans, one of the most endangered wildlife species of Malaysia, the goals of this project have been greatly expanded in the recent years. The latest objective includes educating the public on research, conservation, and captive breeding of other endangered species such as rhinoceros. Today, the center boasts of 37 staff members who ensure maximum welfare of the Orang-Utans there.
