Batang Ai National Park Malaysia
The Batang Ai National Park is located in eastern Malaysia in the Shri Aman Division of Sarawak. The beautiful park houses the Orang Utan, which is one of the most endangered species of the world. Apart from this, it is also the home for several protected wildlife including the gibbons and hornbills and is the water catchment area of Malaysia, holding the only artificial lake of Sarawak.
Beyond the lake, around an hour’s upriver boat ride from the dam, can be seen the stunning mixed and lowland dipterocarp forest whose beauty is enhanced by the relaxed trees shadowing the rivers beneath. The rivers here are clear, fast flowing, extremely refreshing, and the main mode of transport. Tourists can have an all the more enjoyable experience in dry periods, when the water level is low and the boats have to be pushed upstream.
